Carter Peyton King, 6, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at home surrounded by his parents. Born on March 16, 2017 in Mishawaka, Indiana he was the son of Matthew and Joanna (Aschenbrenner) King.
Carter was the type of person who could put a smile on your face the second he entered a room. He was the light and joy everywhere he went, but was also a listening ear or shoulder to cry on. He was a Star Wars enthusiast who loved to draw all of his favorite characters, especially the walkers or his sidekick Chip the cat. He found love and positivity in everything, even his beloved tarantula. Carter had a passion for the darker characters like Wednesday Addams, Jafar from Aladdin, and any kind of creepy crawly, but he still had a heart of gold with the best of intentions and our others first.
Carter spent his free time either building airplanes and walkers with legos or drawing them in his sketchbooks.Β
He was given a terminal brain-cancer diagnosis but didnβt let that wipe the smile off of his face. He would even happily cheer on his way to get radiation or anesthesia. He fought with love and bravery til the very last second. All he wanted was for people to learn to find the love and beauty in everything and be courageous.
He is survived by his parents Matt (Joanna) King of Plymouth; brothers: Noah and Hayden King of Plymouth; grandparents: Brad (Robin) King of Plymouth; Brian (Cathy) Aschenbrenner of Mishawaka; great-grandparents LeRoy (Blanche) Aschenbrenner of Mishawaka.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 11-1 pm at New Song Church, 1292 Baker St. Plymouth, IN 46563. A memorial service will immediately follow with Pastor Justin Chambers officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to Cure Starts Now DIPG Research, 10280 Chester Rd. Cincinnati, OH, 45215 or through Carters Tribute page at https://p2p.thecurestartsnow.org/1689. Please feel free to bring a new and unopened toy to donate to kids in need and help lift their holiday spirit on the day of Carter’s Memorial Service.

Matthew and Joanna –
I am a business associate of Brad’s. I have been following Carter since the beginning of his diagnosis. Words can’t express how I feel about your loss. Having 3 grown children and 3 grand children myself makes me all the more grateful for each day I have with them. During times like this, the only hope I have ever had is through my faith in Jesus Christ. I am praying for His peace over you and your family during this very difficult time. May you also draw strength from the wonderful memories you had with Carter.
With much sympathy,
Mark Williams, Raleigh NC
