We lost our beautiful Debby on February 12, 2022; taken from us tragically and unexpectedly, but forever is here in our hearts.
Debra Jean Barnes was born on December 26, 1957, in Gary, Indiana to James Barnes and Hazel Shinneman.
Being around Debby was always a blast. Fun, witty, and full of life. Her joyous humor and contagious laugh always brought doubled over laughs to those around her. Whether you were family or friend, you just felt better after being with her.
Debby had a wonderful way with words and had a talent to express in writing all kinds of feelings, emotions, beauty, and wit. She would never hesitate to pour life, encouragement, or accountability into those she loved.
Debby had a love and great passion for dogs in need of a forever home. A rescuer. Her home was always filled with many rescued and adopted furry friends, and when her home was overflowing, she still was helping other dogs find a forever home.
Debby loved Jesus and she loved her church. She was a prayer warrior and her faith and service to God was astounding and a great priority in her life. She is with Him now, basking in His love for her.
Heaven is a little bit better now and she will be very missed by so many.
Debby is survived by her daughters whom she loved so, April Mcleish and husband, Scott; Amber Barrick and husband, Henry; her mother and stepfather, Hazel and Larry Shinneman; two brothers, Terry Barnes and wife Alona, and Kevin Barnes; two sisters, Carolyn Huria and husband, Mark; Sandy Gammon and husband, Joe; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.
Debby was preceded in death by her father, James Barnes.
Services for Debra will remain private.

There are just no words to express our condolences for your loss. We had the pleasure and joy of being considered her Pastors and her friends. This world and your family have lost a great prayer warrior and while our hearts are broken because she is gone from us, we know she is dancing before her Lord and Savior. May the Lord give you strength, peace and comfort.

I am a newer friend of Debby. I greatly miss her infectious humor and her heart for the Lord. Her tragic death leaves a large hole in both intercession and our services at church. She passionately served the Lord in all she did. We miss her and I grieve over your family’s great loss.

We will forever miss Debra. She was a great friend, colleague, and especially a second “mother” to our “Jagger”. She loved Jagger as her own and would always be ready to watch him as we were traveling. We lost him just 3 weeks after the passing of Debra and we know that she met Jagger in heaven with open arms as he crossed over. Until we meet again dear friend, you are always with us.
