As smart and good as anyone I’ve known, and always humble.

Friendly, jovial and brilliant! Jon was highly respected by all his brothers in Sigma Chi. He held the record for the most hours spent studying at the IU Library. As someone who was obviously from a close and caring family, Jon was mature beyond his years, and someone who the brothers felt would make the best physician God could ever put on the planet. Judging by the comments here, from friends and patients, it seems we were right. We are proud of his legacy.
All Honor to his name!
Rest in Peace.

Kubley Family: Words cannot express how sorry I am for your unexpected loss. Jon always had a smile to share and I’ll always appreciate the moments I shared with him on the non-food pantry years ago and, more recently, the church vestry. His family clearly brought so much light to him and it literally radiated from him.
Mary: Jon’s and your servant hearts are a testament to how the love of Christ blooms forward from the faithful. Seeing you serve as individuals and as a couple showed everybody around you how deeply you respected and loved each other.
Maggie: watching you fulfill your dreams and seeing how proud your dad was every time he talked about your adventures in branching out into your own small business was a joy to see. My heart is with you and your siblings.

Always a smile, a listening ear, and empathy for others made Jon the type of person and doctor he was. God must have been short on Angels….he got a few last week. Jon you will be so very missed .

Sending my heartfelt condolences to Mary and all of Jon’s sibs, children, extended family, and friends. So many memories of Jon in school at Plymouth, and, since my family moved from Plymouth after 1971, in too few get-togethers in the years that followed. Loved reconnecting at the 50th high school reunion 2 years ago. Such a kind, caring, funny, smart, family man. And a gift to Family Medicine. Gone way too soon. Thanks for the years we had.
Gail Barlow says
My condolences to his wife Mary and family. One of the best doctors I have worked with.
Anita Shipley says
Dr. Jon was my family’s doctor for many years. He was so patient and kind, and I always thought he had a dry sense of humor which made him even funnier. I remember when my daughter was quite young, and she was very sick. She had been running a high fever for days, and I was so scared. He had some blood tests run, and I remember sitting and talking with him. I was so scared. He looked at me for a few moments, and said, “She’s not going to die, Anita.” I immediately burst into tears, and asked him how he knew I was thinking that. He just got a slight smile, and said she was going to be fine. And she was. She is now 33. I will never forget that, and I will never forget him. Rest in peace, dear Dr. Jon. 😞🙏🏻
Deb, Saint Joseph Regional Med. Center says

Jon was a kind and very intelligent doctor. He took such good care of Barb when she was dying of ALS – both when he was our family doctor and later when he was the hospice doctor. I can remember him seeing him in the evenings at Plymouth Hospital studying records and reports when any of our children were in the hospital and then stopping in to check on them. His wife Mary came in the mornings several days a week to sit with Barb and help care for her when she was dying of ALS so I could continue teaching at school. Jon is a doctor who my family and I will always remember.

When do you learn that someone younger than you is simply smarter, funnier and more clever than you could hope to be? The answer is when you come home from college and work on the city paint crew with Jon Kubley and his buddies! All they wanted was to wear orange traffic cones on their heads and sing Frank Zappa hits! Great memories Doctor! RIP

We were so saddened to learn of Jon’s passing. My husband Don was a classmate and graduated with Jon at PHS. Later on, Jon was our family doctor, kind, helpful, funny, and humble. It sure was a loss to us when he left private practice but definitely was a big gain for Hospice when he joined them. We are sure when Jon left his earthly home, he was met with our Heavenly Father and heard the words ” Well done, good and faithful servant”. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Jon’s family.

Like so many, I was deeply saddened to hear of Jon’s passing. Having grown up across the alley from the Kubley family, I have fond memories of Jon as far back as childhood. Over the past twenty years, I crossed paths with Jon periodically, when our mothers were neighbors once again as residents at Miller’s Senior Living. And like others, my family greatly benefited from Jon’s hands-on approach when our mother was in Hospice Care. He helped bridge the gap as we learned to negotiate long distance elder care. My mom just loved Jon, and would always report his visits to us. When my mother was released from hospice, I got a call from Jon explaining why, and updating me on what was happening in Plymouth during those uncertain early days of the pandemic. During my many visits to Plymouth, I enjoyed seeing Jon and Mary at Wild Rose Moon, where he would check in with me about my writing. Jon was a smart, kind, funny man, who brought light into the lives of many. My deepest condolences go out to the entire Kubley family, and to the Plymouth community. Jon was a gem.
Kimberly Schmalz Ochsenschlager says
Sending my heartfelt condolences to the entire Kubley family. Jon’s wonderful sister, Pam, was my dear sorority sister and close pal.
